Reflecting on Music Video Challenge

The music video challenge for me was a very enjoyable day. Before the day of the actual filming of our group music video we were asked to make our own short music video and find some editing equipment that we could use. Since this was after year 12 and the beginning of 13 This was going to be an easy task since I was extremely confident with anything technological within media. It turned out to be harder than I firstly anticipated because my lip syncing was off in certain places other than that was a very good music video considering it was shot on a mobile.

My Job on the Filming day was the production manager. My role basically was to make sure that everyone done there job to the best of their ability to ensure that we had successful on the day of the filming, for example the music production team. I would say that I had done a good job.

However production manager was not my only job on the day, since there was a lot of us we had the opportunity to shoot and direct certain shots, this was a good time to give everyone experience when it come to doing there own music video in the near future.

I helped to shoot this shot by making a smooth tracking motion because the people in the shot were moving towards us.

In this shot I actually shot and directed myself, as you can see the people in the shot had to be in certain positions in order to create a certain affect for the shot.

WWW:

We were able to finish shooting everything to a good standard within the time that was set.

The organisation, and preparation from everyone was excellent and that showed throughout the day.

I got experience in shooting and directing a music video so I will be able to use that later on in the year to get the best grade possible.

EBI:

Some of the extra had the right costumes even though we were still able to shoot everything that we had to shoot.

We had the whole day to shoot that way we wouldn't have had to rush during various shots throughout the day.

We all got the chance to perform in the video throughout the day.

My progress from Year 12 into Year 13 in Media

In the beginning of year 12 I had i was new to media as it was the first time i had done it so i was learning everything from scratch. The first thing I had ever done in media was my preliminary task of just a short video an 'opening sequence' if you will. At the point when i did that I thought that i knew everything about media however there were some mistakes that should have been rectified.

there were various mistakes in that video such the framing of certain shots, holding the camera steady when needed ECT. However after this point I realised how much I enjoyed media and my work started seeing the effects of that as well. I had to plan and make my own actual opening sequence for a film. This was not easy as there were a lot of things that had to happen in order for it to be successful. one thing was my planning and organisation had to be on point as we were working in group we had to make sure everyone was always kept in the loop.

There was a good deal of your own time that had to be used as well, especially since I had to do a couple of shots that were at night so we couldn't shoot it during school hours. This is our final product of year 12:

Throughout my time in year 12 I feel as though my media knowledge and skills increased drastically. I am now confident enough to successfully use anything to do with media. For example I can confidently use anything from a camera to the programs on the Mac.

What Makes a Good Music Video

There are several elements that make a good music video, and they consist of lip syncing, varied shots, lighting and the list goes on. I am going to explain what makes a good music video and gives examples where possible.

Beyonce is and artist that has produced various successful music video throughout her career and has has longevity in her career partly due to this.

I would call this music video because it ticks all the boxes for being a good music video because it ticks all the boxes to being a good music video one the things that video does well is that it cuts between shots. This is something that will stop viewer fatigue. Another thing that video does well is that it has appropriate lighting for what is going on in the video.

Another factor that has to be perfect in order for a good music video is the lip syncing. This is probably the most important thing of the video because you could have everything else spot on and this off and ruin the whole music video. Also varied shots is a good way of having a successful music video is the performance.

However the performance does not need to come from the artist performing the song you could also have actors that perform as well and this is another way of reducing viewer fatigue. I have a picture as an example from 'Lil Wayne - How To Love'. Where he has actors doing most of the performing and he does certain little parts throughout the story. This also ties in with another factor of making a good music video and that is the Mise En Scene. As you can see both shots that I have chosen are very interesting and the Mise En Scene in each one is spot on. Where by what the person can see in the music video matches the feel of the song, the lyrics ECT.
