Album cover research

This album cover is an extremely simple yet effect screen album cover, this is done mainly through the Mise En Scene. Firstly the alive women is physically dragging out her insides and she is dressed in black and looks as if she is at a funeral, maybe she is at her own funeral. Things like that appeals to people who listen  to rock music because they like dark weird stuff like this.
Another thing that is interesting about this album cover is the juxtaposition, between the sweet innocent girl holding her guts. It is weird and twisted yet makes sense because of the type of genre the music is and the lyrics would probably suit this picture. I say this because the picture could tell you what the album itself is going to be like and it also represents the artists because they chose not to put themselves in the cover and that may be symbolic of themselves. This is also apparent with the white background and the black dress may have a symbolic meaning. It may represent the band because they even though they are a rock band they look like normal people, which is shown through the white, the things they say in their songs lyrics the dark gory stuff maybe represented through the girl and her dark dress and her insides.
The picture also compliments the name of the album 'Suicide Season'. This is because in the picture the girl seems to be committing suicide, looks as though she should be dead but she has this blank expression in her face. Apart from the blood and guts she seems clean and tidy every where else which may suggest that there is more to her that you, don't know and This may be a metaphor for the artist or the album.
The text in the picture is also not that visual and this may have been done for various reason. One reason being that they wanted the majority of the attention to be on the girl, so the picture of her could be clear so it could raise questions and interest. The other reason is maybe because it connotates with what the titles actually says 'Suicide', I say this because when people are going to committee suicide it is not always clear and sometimes you have to look closer to see what is actually happening.

Like most album covers artists want their one to stand out, and they can do this through various ways. In this case 'Kings Of Leon' have chosen to use 4 separate profile pictures intertwined with and Eagle. The album cover is split into for parts, with four face on close up pictures of each member in the band. This may have been done in order to show that there are four members in the band, and unlike some other 'Rock' bands they have chosen to show their faces in order to create a certain affect.
This affect was created by the editing done on the picture. The fact that there are four pictures lets people viewing the cover know that the band are made of four individuals. Although in this case the picture has been editing is a very unique way because only a corner of each band member face has been taken to create what seems like on face. They may have done this to show even though the band is made of four individuals, they together make the 'Kings of Leon', one band, one sound one group; and this is shown cleverly through the combination of the Mise En Scene and cinematography of the picture.
The dark lighting of the picture is something that is common of most things that anyone does if they are associated in the 'Rock' genre. However this connotates with the name of the album 'Only By The Night'. I say that because a sort of night time affect has been given to this cover through the colouring of the whole picture. It seems as though it is being looked at through 'Night' vision goggles. Although I think that they Have done this in order to make it seem as though your are looking through the Eagles eyes at 'Night' and that is how they cleverly intertwined to eagle in the picture because it has relevance to the overall affect of the album cover itself.
The last thing that i am going to comment on is the size of titles on the album cover. As you can see they only take up the top corners of covers and does not obstruct any of the picture, this has been done because it fits best there and they maybe don't want the message of the album cover to been miss understood in anyway shape or form .

The last album cover is from Green Day. I think that this album cover again fits in with other 'Rock' Album covers because of how creative it is and the messages that it holds. In this case the colour Green normally associated with peace, fair trade ECT. However in case they have chosen to make the bands name 'Green Day' stand out. They have done this through the size of it and also the black background and the actual 'Green Day' being in white so it stands out that bit more.

They also named the album after one of their most successful songs 'American Idiot'. This is very clever because they have an animated hand holding a grenade. This has various meanings because The American army have been known for extremely stupid at recent wars by doing things like friendly fire basically acting like 'idiots'.  So The name 'Green Day' contradicts against the animation in this picture because it absolutely goes against what 'Green' represents. This is taken further by the name of the album 'American Idiot' because it shows and matches exactly what the media says the American army are doing at war.

Since the cover is based around the American army, people looking at the cover know that the album itself may be quiet violent. That may include strong language and concept that under aged children shouldn't be listening to. However it is known that is should have parental guidence before letting children listening to this album and this is shown through the 'Parental advisory' sign.
