Analysis of Rock Videos 2

The next video that I am going to analyse is 'Green day - American idiot'



CINEMATOGRAPHY:

This particular video has a variety of shots in this video, this is to help reduce viewer fatigue as one reason. Also a long shot is used frequently so that it can get the whole of the band in one shot and also so the viewer can see the instrument that each of the artist used. There is quiet a lot of close ups to random shots to fill in the editing technique. Cinematography is used in this video well because it helps add to the careless effect of the video.

EDITING:

Their is typical editing techniques used in this video also, they use short sharp editing through shots, this is another way of reducing viewer fatigue. The video is also edited in order where there are certain shots before other so that the music video makes sense to people watching it. There are also random cutaways of a hand holding a grenade this is incorporated in the video well because it is used as 'Green Day' logo in a sense so it is relevant and people would recognise it.

MISE EN SCENE:

The mise en scene of this video is not that typical of a rock music video. Most rock video are quiet dark and yes there are dark parts of the video however the colour green is used often throughout the video. It may have been used because of the concept of the video 'American Idiot' the traditional American colours are Red, white and Blue so I think the green is used to add to the concept of the video because there is an American flag shown throughout the video, and also add to the bands image as they are called 'Green Day'.

SOUND:

The song itself is a typical rock song it has a rebellious sound to it. The concept of the song is one of those things that people can reach out to because of certain peoples opinions of Americans. The lyrics of the song are based around a subject and the subject obvious through the mise en scene and lyrics combined.

PERFORMANCE:

The performance of the artist is brilliant throughout the video. In this video there are no actors used to help with the overall performance of the video, there is mainly just the people who made the song in the video at at any time through out so I think that the artist done well to be able to entertain people through out the video of their own performances.
