Andrew Goodwin

What is editing?

"Editing is a way of going from one shot to another".

Andrew Goodwin Came up with three types of editing a music video. Andrew said people could edit in three different ways was came up with was 'Illustration, Amplification and Disjuncture'.

Illustration is split up into three parts one is how we edit to the music. Andrew says that people should edit on the beat of the music, in order for the pace of the video match the pace of the songs. The other way is editing through the lyrics. Andrew thinks that whatever is being said in the song should be shown by the images on the screen. The last is the Band or artist image would match the expectations of the audience.

Amplification is also split into three parts. I’m going to start with the music. Andrew thinks that if film cuts on and off beat it and that emphasises certain features. The lyrical side of things is that the images give the lyrics a bigger in the song. A certain story line may have been used that may not have been used if someone was to read the lyrics by themselves. The band or artist in the video become fictional characters.

Disjuncture is the last part, the musical side is that video cuts off the beat occasionally because if it does happen to often it is a sign of a badly made music video it is a sing of a badly made music video. The second part is the lyrical part of the video. Sometimes the images do not relate to what the lyrics are saying, However this in generally used by already established artist because they can afford to take the risk. Lastly The Artists take up an image that is nothing like what is being said in the song or the opposite what is expected of them to wear.
