Analysis of Rock Videos 3

The next video that I am going to analyse is 'The Subways - rock and roll queen'




CINEMATOGRAPHY:


In this video there is a lot different shot types. This is to because the music video just mainly revolves around the band in one place so they use the different shot types to add to the chaos of the video and also so the can keep it new and interesting. There are certain shots used here such as 'mid shots', that main purpose is to show instruments and not focus on the people playing them as much. I think that they may do this because they are trying to show how "somebody" can be a 'rock and roll queen'.

MISE EN SCENE:

Like most other rock songs there is a dark feel to this video, this is created through the setting of the actual video, it looks as though it has been shot in an empty warehouse so the background is dark and only the artist are shown for obvious reason. Also a lot of instruments are being shown throughout the video this is because every member of the band plays an instrument so they have to be shown, to add to the artist image of a had core rock star and also to add to the concept of the song 'Rock and Roll' guitars ECT re used often in that genre of music.

 EDITING:

The editing of this video is very well done. I say this because the artist are in just one location throughout the video so the editing has to make up for the lack of surrounding. An empty warehouse would usually seem boring but in this case the typical short sharp editing technique has in itself given the video a certain energy about it an reduced viewer fatigue. Also the use of slow motion throughout the video helps keep it interesting.

SOUND:

The sound of this track is a typical 'Rock and roll' sound. They have done this through the instruments that have been used to create the instrumental behind the lyrics and also the lyrics sat 'Rock and Roll' in them so people know what to expect of the video from the lyrics themselves. Some of the most frequently used instruments in rock and roll and guitars and drums and they are in the song so the genre is also shown there.

PERFORMANCE:


The performance of the artists themselves was magnificent, I say that because of the type of video it actually was. Since it was only shot in one place the performance of the artist had to be amazing in order for hem to come out with a successful video and they done very well throughout all of the shots because the were not only energetic but interesting and 'cool' in a sense.
